Sharlene Young is the Principal and Owner of Symbiotic Living Architecture and Design. For more than 25 years, Sharlene has worked with clients to enrich their vision through the built environment.

Sharlene began her career at Perkins and Will in Chicago and also gained experience working alongside industry giants at The Environments Group and Gary Lee Partners.  For over 12 years, Sharlene acted as Interior Practice Lead for Wheeler Kearns Architects, when a difficult life event presented the opportunity to start her own design practice. Based on the mission to achieve design excellence through the perspective of wellbeing, Symbiotic Living Architecture and Design opened its doors 2016 and continues to work with Wheeler Kearns Architects in a strategic partnership focused on residential and commercial office projects.

Sharlene’s notable corporate interior projects include designing the prototype workplace for Andersen Consulting, McKinsey &Company, DLA Piper Rudnick and the Crate & Barrel headquarters.

Recognized for awards such as the AIA Chicago Young Architect Award, Educational Facility Design Excellence Award, USGBC Emerald Award for Green Building Innovation, AIA IL Honor Award and Frank Lloyd Wright Award, Sharlene is highly respected among her clients and peers.
